25th Annual Aubrey Peanut Festival

Saturday, October 2, 2010

~Always the FIRST Saturday in October

School will have resumed, football will be here, and the town of Aubrey, Texas will be preparing for the 25th annual Peanut Festival.

Founded in 1985 as a civic project of the Texas Sesquicentennial, the library has been hosting and running the annual Peanut Festival as a library fundraiser ever since.

This fundraiser has grown from humble beginnings into a major local event.

The first festival was held on Saturday November 1, 1986 and Aubrey was still a peanut producing area. Climate changes led to a decline in peanut production, but that agricultural product was soon replaced by another--namely, horses. Aubrey is now known nationally as "Horse Country USA".

Parade goers at the first Peanut Festival were showered with peanuts, children played a "ring a duck, win a rabbit" contest which resulted in 45 children taking home baby rabbits to the (delight?) of their parents, 30 contestants entered dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, and a goat in the pet contest, and a street dance had 100 participants dancing until midnight. The first Peanut Festival cleared $600.00 for the library.

So, round up your family and friends on Saturday, October 2, 2010 and ride on over to downtown Aubrey.

The parade kicks off at 10:00, after which booths will be open for your pleasure.

Booths include all kinds of food, crafts, games, and exhibits.

If you are interested in being a member of the Volunteer Nut Gang, being in the parade, entering the logo contest, pet contest, photo contest, riding in the 25 mile Peanut Pedal, or setting up a booth, you will find all of the information on this site or by calling the library 940-365-9162.
